A word about Vintage Fender Cabinet Construction. Info by Greg Gagliano. (Amp Historian)

"From circa 1972 to the early 1980s, the cabinets were no longer made from solid pine boards, but cheaper laminated, multi-piece pine boards.

Each side of the cabinet was made from several pieces about three or four inches wide, glued side-to-side, to make up a plank the depth of the cabinet. These laminated cabs were not finger joined, but rabbet joined.

The baffle board on these rabbet joined cabinets was mortised into the sides and bottom (i.e. - not removable) to hold the whole thing together. That’s why these post-1972 cabinets have the grill cloth stretched across a frame that is attached by a velcro-like system to the baffle.

CBS almost certainly went to this construction method to save money, though at the expense of overall quality."

  1. Rocket Cab Memphis 1x12

Posted by Scott Vance on 2nd May 2013

I wanted to update you on the Memphis Cabinet. It sounds fantastic! The workmanship is superb. I appreciate the suggestions you made regarding the floating baffle. It does seem to have improved the frequency response in addition to greater resonance. The Eminence Reignmaker Speaker is still breaking-in, but first returns are good, though the speaker cabinet is providing a good playing level in my studio without using much of the attenuation control on the back of the speaker. I did try it with my more powerful Suhr Badger 30 and found, with the attenuation, I was able to obtain tones that were not before possible. Thanks again for your expert help and keeping me informed during the build. I would recommend your products highly.

  2. Memphis 1x12

    Paul,
I wanted to drop you a line telling how much I dig my new Rocket Cab Memphis 1X12 loaded w/ the Eminence Legend. When I pulled it out of the packing box, I couldn't believe how light it was and smell of pine was intoxicating! When I plugged my 30 watt Peavey Classic head into it, it sounded bigger and tighter than before. The workmanship is top notch! It's really beautiful and I can't thank you enough! Mike Clinco

  4. Absolutely awsome!

Posted by Walt Ligon on 15th Jun 2012

I wanted a cab to match my Fender SS 22 with blonde tolex and oxblood cloth. None of them out there were quite the right size. Paul made me a wider version of the Memphis, and it looks perfect! Sounds even better! That plus the best service I've ever had. If you are looking for a cab, this is the place to go!

  5. Memphis !x12 Cab

Posted by Mike, Richmond, VA. 4-30-2012 on 30th Apr 2012

Searched the WEB and found many custom cabinets. Was also interested in an Eminence C-Rex. I got both here. The cabinet is like the one pictured on the web site. Blonde covering with the Oxblood/Gold Stripe grill cloth. Standard open back. It looks great! Easy to carry. Very solid. Most of all, sounds awsome! Paul Robison is very easy to work with. Emails were answered promptly and he even provided pictures! Great cabinet, good service, at reasonable price. Not to mention it has a pretty cool sticker. Glad I pulled the trigger on this one!
